Holiday Homework

To begin with I read through the task sheet and throughly read what I had to do. To be honest at first I was a bit unsure on what I could actually record when using my 15 minutes wisely but as I sat there more and more each day I new idea came. To narrow it down and help me I made five main things I needed to remember when I was sat outside, these all involved slight prompts or ideas I had thought of before I was even out there.

As well as making them 5 prompts I did some research into the artists and links that had been given to us on the sheet. I looked into Andy Goldsworthy and Richard Long the most as they were the most interesting for me. Printing out photo evidence was useful as this gave me something to look back on and improve my artist research even more. I particularly like Andy's work because of the colour and almost symmetrical work he does.

Day 1: I began doing a few rubbings with coloured chalk to try some materials out I had. Also I compared size and colours of leaves that were around me and made a couple of notes of the feelings I had during my 15 minutes. Looking back on the first day does make me see how much my ideas have grown and developed as the first day I feel is a very basic simple result.

Day 2: I attempted a dragging technique in day 2. The result was in my opinion quite colourful, I think I was expecting just dark mud and rock stains.

Day 3: During my 15 minutes on day 3 I went for a different material approach and used photography. I also did not just observe the floor and the nearest objects around me, I discovered a rainbow and multiple colour shadings in the sky. Again I made a few notes on how I felt with these images and included the 5 senses.

Day 4:  This day I went back to using more chalk to see where the went and did several rubbings of the plant life around me including different types of leaves and areas of grass and stone.

Day 5: I feel this particular day was very different to the others as I struggled with recording anything. I basically sat there thinking with a blank page simply printing and area of where I was sat. However it began to rain so the print became sad and quite worn looking which I think I can be happy about as its much different to other recordings.

Day 6: This day I sat in a different area and gained evidence of being outside. I recorded this 15 minutes by collecting life from the garden and forming some kind of montage with it, this day I am happy with as I have brought colour into it and feel its more exciting than others.

Day 7: The next day I continued with this technique but changed it slightly I began comparing colours, sizes and all types of plant life I could find.  I also looked back on my research and did an attempt of my own leaf mandella similar to Andy Goldsworthy's work just to see how that would turn out.

Day 8: This day I started to do more printing work using only the materials from outside, I covered and scrapped the mud onto some leaves and printed them. The result came out with being able to see the veins of the leaves. I printed it until there were no more markings left. I then did the same with a red flower and a smaller leaf, however when using the red flower it fell apart really easy so the result of that print was poor.

Day 9: I went for very basic ideas this day and simply did I sketch of one of the leaves I found and shaded certain areas that were dark and light using pastels.

Day 10: During my 15 minutes on this day I chose to use all my senses again but in a much different way. I used my sketchbook almost like a brush and rubbed it across a grass patched area very firmly, this resulted in lots of scratches and markings from the mud and grass. I then wrote down what I could see, smell, feel, hear and imagine what it would taste like. I also sketched around the certain things I could see in the large rubbing.

Day 11: On this day I did a similar print but in the rain and dropped a handful of random plant life on the page to see where it would land. I then wrote a result of what I thought and how I could change a few things the next day.

Day 12: On the last day I attempted to recreate a much clearer print of random plant life but this did not work, no matter how hard I pressed it would not print so I did a symmetrical rubbing by sliding the pages together to create a shame scraping arc almost on either side.
