Research into Henri Matisse

Henri Matisse was  french artists known for both his use of colour, his fluid and original draughtsmanship. He was a sculptor, print maker, draughtsman but known mainly as a painter. He would create very bold and bright paintings which what has attracted me to look into him and his work as colour is a big interest of mine. He was born in 1869 and sadly died in Nice France 1954. He was influenced mainly by Van Gough's work as he did a lot of portrait paintings and prints too, however this kind of work he did doesn't interest me as much as his abstract impressionism work. A quote he would always say is "There are always flowers for those who want to see them " I find this quote a very happy saying as clearly he was a confident and friendly man going by this saying he would always mention. I have started looking into Matisse as I discovered him when doing my own body prints, someone mentioned to me when I had completed them that they look like " Matisse's work" so this gave me the idea to research into him and his work. Matisse went through quite a hard life as he had been rejected from many colleges and failed his exam for the Ecole des Beaux Arts and had brought up several children as well as jumping from one relationship to another. He also had a wife named Amelie Parayre after splitting with his past wife Caroline Matisse. Amelie sadly died whilst they were on there honeymoon and Henri was left with the up bring of three children as well as financial problems. So Matisse went through a lot through his life however he still was able to create some amazing art work and pieces that I have a strong interest in.
