Human figure research from Madrid trip

This piece was created by a French artist named Robert Delaunay. He used geometric shapes in his work and was a orphanism and cubism artist. His colour scheme was a variety of bright exciting colours and he was most famous for his circle paintings and endless rhythm work. He was born in Paris 1885 and died in Montpellier 1941. As I researched further into Robert's background story I discovered that he was close friends with Kandinsky and did slightly similar work, however his wife was even more close with him a they would paint together.

His wife, Sonia Delaunay was born in 1885 and died in 1979. She was originally from Ukraine but sadly died in Paris, France. Known for her paintings and orphism work, she creates similar work to her husband in fact its almost the same. She uses bold colours and circles many in her art work, however over the years after and before her death she has been recognised and been involved in fashion items and designs.

Primes électriques 1914: Robert Delaunay

Laughing Torso: Sonia Delaunay

I found these artists in the Museo Nacional Centro De Arte Reina Sofia located in Madrid, this particular painting Robert did caught my eye as I liked how the colour of the male's body contrasts with the background, also I felt it could help towards my life drawing. This is because the body is not perfectly shaped its very abstract so this technique could be something I might try out when doing more life drawing work. The piece is named Le Gitan (The Gypsy) it was painted in 1915 with oil paint.
