Another lesson of life drawing for stage 2

For the last lesson of life drawing for this stage I would like to say that I have defiantly progressed and improved with the scale and proportion of human life drawing. Also I have used different materials however in a wider range of techniques. For example finger painting, using a spatular, sponge, pallet knives and simple paint brushes too. Over the lessons I have done all this and improved more and more after each lesson by listening on how to do certain things and observing other work to gain ideas from, because of this I have no created my last few pieces of life drawing for this stage which are shown below. The first image was done with my own fingers and a large paintbrush. Firstly I painted the basic areas in red of the woman's arms, beats and outline. Then painted with my finger a basic outline of her body and did it randomly because I didn't want it to fit the red areas, I did this because I did not want it to be perfectly fitted I wanted the abstract look of it and wanted it to be very different to what you would expect. Then went around certain lines and areas that were lighter and used yellow. Lastly I filled the last areas with a mucky white and flicked orange and white paint at the painting to finish it off.

The second paintings I created I am very proud of as this isn't something I normally do. To change the style of life drawing a classmate chose to do a moving pose, this is when the model changes position every other minute when she feels like it or gets uncomfortable. The image on the left was the first movement painting I did, I chose to do it using my fingers and just simply use a coloured outline for each different pose. I then added soft black lines and curves around the areas where it appeared dark. On the other hand the image on the right is more defined and in proportion in my opinion as I changed it around a little and outlines the full body with black but filled them with colours. I feel it looks better this way as there is more definition and more excitement.  However I am disappointed as I wanted to get better at painting hands and feet as it is my weak point, although I haven't done this in these pieces of work as I avoided them for that reason.

When the model started doing ten to fifteen minute poses I then started looking at Stella Vine's work and used her techniques with the solid colours and pallet knife work. Although, I added my own style to it and blended the paint slightly this created a skin colour look and I attempted to highlight areas using whites, yellows and pinks. I prefer doing life drawing for longer timings as this gives me more time to focus on the position and the stance. Also I enjoy having time painting a background on the model as I find it boring without one. The still red background I feel work really well as it makes the colours in the body stand out much more than it would on a white background. I will carry on doing life drawing when there is an option to as I really do enjoy doing it much more than I used to. Linking it to the stage I'm at which is the theme metamorphosis is difficult, however the movement drawings do link as it shows different stages and the progression of the woman moving and changing which is the definition of metamorphosis.
