After looking into Yves Klein's work I discovered another artists that includes parts of the human body that is similar to Yves, but does less performance and experiments more with other objects such as teddy bears and denim wear, these materials create a ghostly and rustic look to the images and develop a very abstract sense to his work. His name is Haris Lithos, he is a greek fine artist but always has a pop art style in some of his work. Although he experiments with other object his favourite seems to be the human buttocks as most of his work is of women sitting and pressing there posterior on canvas. He sees more than just an image of the rear end of a woman on a canvas, he understands the stages of the printings and the compositions of the women its as if he uses the women to substitute a paint brush other than them being just an object. The greek artist stands mainly as an observer and guides the women on where to sit and be placed similar to Yves Klein.
His chosen deep striking colours and techniques to his work makes it detailed and meaningful to the viewers, in many of his paintings he has used wood, canvas and paper to print the images on the surface. Lithos is an artist that pays attention to detail his forms often repeat yet differ from one another even if its only slightly, highlighting each subjects uniqueness. In this particular painting I like his choice of colours and the background colour, it makes the print
stand out much more. The piece of work below is named Space Matters. In an interview I researched into the greek artist states that through his work he tells a story. Being a narrator of stories, he tries to find a unique feature in every model he works with, one that would probably relate to their life story and their character. This process helps Lithos identify the body part he has to work with, that special spot that needs to be imprinted. His idea of how he works with women and certain objects inspire me to work like him, however there is a limit to my work as using nudity isn't prohibited with in my college work. Although, I can still work in the style of Lithos, for example I could use another body parts e.g arm, hand, leg or even faces as they create more detail for the print. As well as thinking about his teddy bear work I could use an object like that.
This painting is the teddy bear work I have mentioned above. Although I have researched deeply into Litho's work it is very hard to find names of the paintings and prints. Although I do like why he has done that, as if we should think of a name for it or think of the story behind the painting. Now this particular print work I love, this is because I like the chosen background colour and the colour of the teddy bear, it contrasts well and highlights the detail of the bears features and fur. I feel it makes it look quite creepy and obscure which is the reason why I like it. Im also intrigued by the amount of times he has printed the bear where as with his human work he did many prints using the same area of the women, I fell this is because the paint must dry out more when using a more detailed and more textured object. From this I have got an idea for experimenting for my next stage; Metamorphosis. I will collect objects to experiment with in the style of Lithos and see how they look.
When researching into the greek artist I discovered he has a love for butterflies as they are linked and shown with in his work several times. Both images below include pictures of relations with butterflies and I'm intrigued on finding out why he has used them. I feel it may be because the buttocks of the women when printed looks like the wings of a butterfly or it could be simply because he likes them. I noticed the butterfly first out of all his work as it links with my metamorphous work I have just begun, his work is using the main process of metamorphism from a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. This strongly links with my work so seeing where my experimentation goes this may work well. Another detail I noticed is on the last image shown below I love how he has dded different colours with in the printing to create more detail of just a simple object, he has done this and created something very detailed and textured out of something so simple and basic. This is the style I am aiming to work in with in this stage, again experimenting will help me progress in the metamorphosis stage.
