After looking into balloon and paint splatter artists, I found a french painter that created the most unusual pieces of artwork using a rifle, random objects and paint. Her name was Niki De Saint Phalle. She painted, sculpted and filmed a lot of her work. She was born in France in the 1930s and sadly died at the age of 71 in san diego, California. Her mother was an American and her dad was a french banker. During her teenage years, Saint Phalle was a fashion model and appears on on 'life' magazine in 1949. By the time she was eighteen she has become a model and was on the front cover of french vogue. In her childhood days she had gone through a lot of problems with her dad as he would sexually abuse her, this is important to mention as this is the reason she would create this type of work as a therapeutic way to forget about him and express her feelings with in the art world.
A tiros con el mundo
The particular piece of art work she created was named A Tiros Con El Mundo, this phrase in spanish for "shot with the world". After knowing what the name of this painting means I understood it more and realised why she used the sculpture with in the paintings. For example the baby in the sky with red paint around it feels to me like its symbolising death all around the world, same with the cars, these are an example of every day life and the city buildings. It was painted in 1962 and was made using plaster, chicken wire and full spray paint cans. She would attach the cans that were filled with paint to the art work and violently shoot them so that the paint splatter would burst over the sculptures. She was an aggressive painter but still kept the accuracy for where she wanted the colours but obviously couldn't control the splatter, this is what I love about her work, how she doesn't know where it will end up or what it will look like.
This screenshot below is from the video I watched bout her paint work and a little bit of information about her. When she decided not to use the spray cans, she would change materials and uses plastic bags or even balloons. Again she would attach them to the art work and shoot at them so that it would splatter and drip onto the plaster work. However she would use random objects as well that linked with events that were going off at that time, for example war and polecat conflict. These pieces of art below have inspired me to do something similar to it using plaster and paint. Although, I can't use relies with in the college but I can use darts and other objects to throw at the balloons so that they explode and splatter mosts the other objects.
