Artist Research

James 'Jim' Lambie is a contemporary visual artist and a very colourful and abstract working artist. He graduated from the Glasgow school of art with a donors bachelor of arts degree. He was born in 1964, Glasgow and had a very special nomination for his work, he achieved the turner prize for his colourful selection of work at the Tate modern museum.

These images below are two pieces of work he did, both very similar and colourful thats why it attracts me to look at it. I can see with in his work how he uses other objects to create another piece of art. For example he uses a plain white or grey background them uses bold and bright colours on his sculptures, the ones with the carrot gives me more ideas for my own work because I like the simple vibe to it and the variety of colour, also the mess and the splatter of the paint creates a symbolic feeling to it as the anger and power of the piece is shown through the paint splatter and the one simple object. Linking back to the beginning the bird sculpture is used to create a piece of art using art. He created the sculpture and designed it himself, then created a ring of spray paint and placed the heavy bird onto the cans. This then made the cans spray out and create another piece of painted art.  This idea I will use to experiment with so that I can see how he works and how I can progress with my skills using his technique.

      David Kefford
David Kefford produced small sculptures using found objects from the streets and pavements. He would the place them all together to make a hand size or smaller piece of art work.  I find them interesting and strange as they are so random and different to other sculptures made out of clay and concrete and so fourth. Shown below are examples of what he has used in his most recent work such as, the bottle cork, a tablet packet, wire and a plastic cup. From this artist I am thinking strongly about doing work  in the style of him as I can relate to him because when I was younger I would do a similar action to the way he works. I used to collect shiny things and small things that would catch my eye, I never actually did any sculpturing with them but now I can.

This link and image below is one of my ideas I will do to experiment with my utopian ideas and to link back with the artist Jim Lambie. I got this idea from watching the princess diaries film, unintentionally I got an idea for my work from this film and realised that I can link it to Jim's art work. However I will use my own object but do the similar action with the balloons.
