For my idea of my utopia I decided to link it to my interests and preferences with colours and shapes. I was going to link it with beaches and blue skies as this is also a utopia for me, However I decided to make it slightly more artistic using wooden blocks, paint and paper. Firstly I painted four A1 sheets of paper but blended three of them to a lighter shade of each colour, but kept the yellow the same as I wanted it to impact the viewer more because of its brightness. At first my idea for these pieces of paper was, for each colour they would have a feeling or emotion behind it, but tat theory didn't link to my utopia as much as I thought it would. So I went back to my research and looked over my past work, from this I realised that I could hang things with in another composition and I looked back on how I used humans with in my work. I learnt from this and used it in this piece. To experiment further I placed certain sheets of paper together to see what they looked like close up and which order the would be on the wall. After I put them together I placed them into photoshop and edited them just to experiment, the outcome was bold and added a different image to the paper as the editing picked out the hidden details with in the paintings.
These are the four A1 sheets of paper I designed. When they had dried I then began to play about with them and put them into different orders to see how the colours would contrast and compare the tones of the colours shades. Then to experiment further I placed it into photoshop and edited it. I changed the levels of the photo and went into the curves option, also effected the exposer of the image and the brightness. This gave the picture a sharp bold look to it and make colours such as, yellow stand out much more.
After trying out new things with the paper, I then decided to put them up on the wall to create my own utopia, which is bright colours and a none complicated environment. So my first choice was to remove the yellow as I thought it was a bit too much and replace it for white. However after making this choice I changed it a short time afterwards as I found it too boring and simple. So I put the yellow paper above the others. I blue tacked them to the wall but used double sided tape to hold the sides of the blue sheet to the other sheets of paper and give the sides of the sheets and even flat look. Secondly I then collected five wooden blocks and painted them. One green, orange, yellow, blue and red, I chose these colours as they are bold solid colours. After they had dried I hung them from the ceiling with string, to secure the string to the blocks I stapled it to them, using one or two staples depending on the angled I wanted the block to hang.
After placing the blocks in the area that I wanted I then chose to include people with in my idea of a utopia. This also links with my theme composition and how the human figure is placed with in an environment. I chose two people as anymore would be too busy and overcrowded and one would be too simple, so two was my final decision. I then took several photos of different angles and facial expressions to see which looked the most abstract and artistic. After deciding on a final photo I placed it into photoshop and developed my work further, I began to change the levels and contrast of the image and experiment with bold colour and black and white. Towards the end of the design I stuck with the black and white scene, however to finalise it I added text that I feel related to my work and my view on life itself. Finally I added brightly coloured rectangles in replacement of the wooden blocks to include colour in the design but also a more vibrant look to it.
From working with photoshop on this project I did another piece of work linking back to previous artists that use the shapes triangles with in their work to focus more on a certain area or to catch your eye on something more important than other paints of the piece. Again, I edited it in photoshop using curves, levels and selective colour and made the yellow much brighter and added tone to the girl's face below her chin and eyes. In my opinion I feel it looks slightly like an album cover but I also think I can improve it many ways such as adding more detail and meaning to the piece.
