For my final banner design I used quite a bizarre image that I took using a digital camera. My initial idea for this design was to have a very busy background or image design and have a simple shape added in there somewhere on the design and have a simple text style included in it. I tested this idea out and I feel like it worked well. I started to edit this image using levels and using the curves option was too much for this image because it was already very bold and had very intense colours. So using the levels I lightened areas that were very dark and enhanced the yellows and pinks. I also looked into using selective colour so that I could enhance the colours such as blue and yellow.
After editing the image I then placed it into illustrator and measured it to the correct measurements (120mm x 300mm) and began to experiment with the pen tool and the shapes button. At first I tried circles and that didn't work as the background includes several lines and needs to have a simple shape area. For this design I have done two very different designs however I've kept the same age but just used it in a different context.
Both images below are my designs but the images right at the bottom are my final designs. At one point I thought I had finished this banner design, but I felt that there was a little bit of editing left. For example I changed the colour of the triangle and the colour of the text, I did this as I wanted to make the writing stand out much more and the opacity of the triangle was to high and I needed a solid colour. I also changed the colour of the logo to white as this needed to stand out against the black background and the busy painted background. I do like this design though, I feel it is very bizarre and eye-catching, I mainly like the colours and how the paint in the image is very messy and slightly abstract looking. I also changed in the opposite banner design the colour of the background behind the text as this was not working in my opinion because I needed the smaller image of the painting to stand out more, so I chose a white block background for the text and made the text a light brown colour and used the text style "Helvetica Light". Same as the fourth banner design I will create a poster and a business card as I find this image very useful to work with and exciting.
