Banner design 1

For my first design I used an image I took from the wall that we designed using acrylic paint and ink. I then placed it into photoshop and began to enhance the colours and experiment with it. I started off with using the curves option and the levels tool to create a dark effect and bolder look to the image. I also looked into the selective colour option and removed all the colours out of the white areas the make them stand out more and look more clear and to create a contrast with the other colours.

After completing a design I am happy with, I then extended my work a little further and set the settings on the curves option to dark. This then created the other image below and made the hands and paint splats more black and powerful, in my opinion I find it slightly scary compared to my original design, hence why I have decided not to use it for my banner and poster designs as it needs to link with the art department and needs to come across as a welcoming banner.

Just to see what both images looked like on a banner design I placed them both into the illustrator document which had the measurements of 120mm x 300mm. Using the correct measurements are very important with in the designing company as accuracy is vital and needs to be neat and exactly the same as the orders that have been given in the brief. After fitting the image that I think suited to the banner most, I included other shapes such as squares and rectangles and altered their opacity to see what it would look like. Then to finalise the design I added text into it which was white Bauhaus, I chose this text as I know it is popular with in the design industry and it was suited well with this particular design.

This is my first finished banner design. I am very happy with it as it is very modern and has an abstract vibe to the design. I feel the colours I have chosen go well together and it isn't too complicated or confusing to look at. However to improve my design I changed the text into Helvetic light, I did this as I feel the Bauhaus text didn't suit this design as well as Helvetica does also I forgot to include the college logo on my banner, again things like these are very important for advertisement. Although in the left design I changed the logo to all black as you could not see the red triangles because the background was red, but over all I am happy with the final outcome of my first design.
