Research into poster designers and the links with in my work

Tycho is a music composer and a poster designer, he designs and creates his album covers himself and his music. He was born in 1977 Sacramento, California, United States. The style of his music is very retro and funky, he's recorded several music albums, his most famous ones are Awake (2014) and Dive (2011). In my opinion I really like the album awake as I find it relaxing and chilling. Ive chosen to look into his work as it inspires me to use his techniques and unique style. As I've looked into Tyco's background I've discovered his website http://tychomusic.com. This gave me an overall view on how he works and what he produces, it also showed me some designs of his albums and how he created them. This then gave me the idea to work from his poster and album designing.

As I've researched more and more into his work Ive realised the link between his work and minimal poster design is similar, as both designers use a plain simple background with just one tone of colour. Then added either in the centre or around the poster is a detailed object, mainly a shape of some kind e.g. triangle, square or circle.The minimal poster design is advertising the famous Disney film 'Monsters Inc' as its included one of the main details of the main character "Mike". Then linked with the same character they used the same colour of his body as the background but has not put an outline or any detail to the body so that it is still a poster. Colour is a very important part of poster design as its a main part of the poster you look at. However the Tycho poster is created in a similar way as both use circular shapes and use colour in a certain way. For example the Tycho album cover that is named "awake" is explaining using colour the stages of the day from waking up, to the midday and until the end of the day. This links with minimal poster design as they both having a meaning behind it but still have a very simple effective look to it. Working from these designers will help me create my own ideas for the posters and I will work in the style of them.
