Research into Alice in wonderland

To begin with I looked into the famous quotes from the book and the films of Alice in wonderland and how they link with the film. The wording is slightly strange and obscure, Lewis Carroll clearly did this so that the script linked with the film and the characters. One of my favourite quotes is "we're all mad here" - cheshire cat, this specifically implies that we are all the same but in a more fun and exciting way and that nobody is different in certain ways, this quote is also very useful towards my work as it allows me to use an abstract way of working from the word "mad". Another quote I like is by the Hatter "Shall we go on an adventure or shall we have tea first?", I love it because it is so quirky and positive. This quote links with the main part of the film I am looking at which is the tea party, however I will still use other parts from the book and film to add to this unit. Working from the poems and quotes are defiantly and option for me as they have detail and I can annualise the text to find the meaning with in it and hopefully create a piece of art work using them.

These two photos shown below are a comparison of how the tea party is shown in the book and the original 1951 Walt Disney film and the remake of Alice in wonderland the 2010 version. See how the colour and digitisation has changed with in the film making, the colours and detail of them have improved so much and become a lot more in depth and clear. However the main thing I like about these photos are that certain things are  kept the same such as: the text of the Hatter's hat, their position on the table, the tree house in the back ground and the tea party objects. From these images I can see how the progress between both films and books have improved over the years, and because of the love I have over this imaginative story its nice to see certain things are kept the same.

These images are very useful towards my work, as I can work from them and create a whole new composition using the style of the drawings and the actual images shown. I am going to sketch out some of these drawings just to experiment different materials and even using paint or printing ink in my upcoming work. The card symbols I particularly like as they catch my eye and encourage me to use them for definite with in my work, either on a painting or painted onto a tea cup I'm unsure yet as I am still researching and experimenting with my ideas. Same with the clocks and teacups they will be used a lot as they link strongly with the tea party scene.

Looking at the text of the title was handy as seeing how the design and position of the title was made was a good advantage for me. This is because with in my coursework I will use writing in there somewhere as I am planning on using the quotes in my paintings and other pieces of work. Mainly the quotes I find that link with the tea party scene but others may work aswell I will see.

These photos are screenshots from parts of each film, (the 1951 film and the 2010 one) these images are of the card men that are soldiers for the queen of hearts. As the years have gone by the graphics of them have also changed and even the nature of them. Back in the 1951 Alice in Wonderland film the card men were happy and a lot more vibrant, where as the men in the 2010 film have more of a linkable nature to them. I feel they did this to add more of a story line for the re creation of the second film and to make it a lot more exciting for us. However certain parts of the card men have still stayed the same for example keeping the numbers and symbol for their queen on them and the large pole the both have as a weapon in the films.

For one of the last pieces of research I watched the main scene I'm focussing on, on Youtube, the tea party. I did this to refresh the image and my view of this particular scene and what objects are included in it to see what ideas I can work with and really just to remember the detail and the mannerisms with in the clip. All this research has certainly given me ideas for more work to be done and it will also be very useful to keep looking back on and read through it to measure my ideas and remind me of my ideas.
