The new brief we have been set with is to design a post box for Sheffield but link the drawings with the towns that we live in and the main things that resemble our towns. Ive began to sketch out simple drawings and ideas for the post box design using city buildings, elderly people, farm animals and fields. These mainly link with my town where as the cities link with Sheffield. After experimenting with a basic pencil sketch I looked in some newspapers and found photos of old men and housing estates, I cut these out and stuck these on the sheet just to see what it would turn out like and so I can work from them and get ideas. Also shown on the sheet I have shown my understanding of how I need to lay it all out by labelings and doing sketches.
As well as the sheet above I've also began to sketch out certain ideas using farm animals, this idea is one of my main ideas but still needs work on. Ive linked the animals with the town I live in as it has many farms and fields wth in it. However Ive also included the brick work and graffiti, these materials link well with the city Sheffield as there is a lot of graffiti and vandalism there, hence why Ive included it into my work. On the bottom left hand corner Ive included artists and designers i can work with, as my work is still very bland and I need to develop my work more by researching into artists like these.
Moving on from the pencil work I decided to use a variety of coloured oil pastels such as pink, black, yellow and red. This work is in the style of Banksy, Ive used his style of black and faded backgrounds and used the red writing on it, however I used some of my own words that link with my village and other cities, such as the word "trees" and "city", these are just experiments to see how it looks and if it works and about understanding the artist. For the backgrounds on all of the drawings I used a black oil pastel and placed the paper over a brick wall, gravel wall and wooden bench, I did this as Banksy uses walls as his backgrounds and focuses on graffiti, thats why I shaded over the brick work to get this affect that he also uses.

These are designs are of my ideas for the post box but in the style of a few of the artists e.g Josef Albers, Banksy and the style of Semi abstract.
