My final idea for the British values poster came from my sixth design whilst taking photos of an object: the key. Then after developing my ideas further into the definition of Liberty and freedom I came up with the idea of using a feather as this links strongly with freedom and liberty, mainly because of where the feather comes from. The feather is from a bird, a bird symbolises freedom, so this gave me the idea to use a part of the bird instead of the whole thing as this shows I've looked deeper into the meaning and reason why I chose it. When I finally found one from outside, I began to take different shots of the object and different angles e.g. facing left, facing right, straight, upside down, slanted on something and lifted slightly for a shadow effect. In the end I chose the photo that was the most suitable and the the one where it was layed down slanted to the right, this gave the feather a slight shadow at the top and created a natural look to it, which is what I was aiming for. Afterwards I then placed it into photoshop and began to edit it, I took all the magenta and yellows out and made the white and black areas more crisp and clear. I then took all the colours out of the background so that it was a smooth white colour.
Following these ideas I then glanced back at my research. I did this because I felt that the poster was too plain and simple, so I looked at my research into minimal poster design and found this poster shown below, this gave me the idea in the first place to use a feather as I knew it'd link well with the meaning of Liberty. Also from my research I saw how they use colour within their advertisement and this gave me the idea to use bright colours with the feather but keep the background plain as this would make the object stand out more. So I decided to paint my own design of the feather and add my own ideas to it from my research. Ive used bright colours as these attract the viewer and make it less boring and simple. After creating this painting I then scanned it into photoshop and enhanced the tone of the colours to make them stronger and bolder.
This is my final plan of my seventh design. I am very happy with the final outcome of this design as I feel it links well with the core British value 'Liberty' and it also appeals to all natures of Britain so it isn't coming across as discriminative in any way or offensive to anyone. The guides are still shown as this helps me make sure the measurements of the poster are correct and the college logo is clear and obvious to see. After editing the feather in photoshop I then duplicated it a three times and placed them onto the document as if they were being set free or blowing away. This particular motion symbolises freedom and liberty to have the rights to have you own rights and to be free. Finding an area for the Helvetica light text was hard as I adjusted the size and the position of the text several times just to get it right also next to my British flag I used Helvetica light I find this text very useful as it is simple and fits with many designs. I still think in my opinion I can find a more suitable place for the text and feel I should make it smaller, this then makes the objects more obvious which is what I am aiming for.
