I created this work to experiment with materials and develop my ideas into my artists further, it will help me understand how the artists work and use colour and their materials. I chose A1 paper as I knew id need a large scale for my work. I began by setting up a canvas and drew the patches of reds and oranges on the background so that the pale face in the centre stands out more.
After looking into my artists work I created my piece of artwork in the style of several paintings by the artists: Picasso, Kazuya Akimoto and Franz Kline. These then lead me to use the colours they use and the patterns they include for example, Kazuya uses block colours and thick layers of paint and Picasso is similar in certain ways as he uses block colours too.
In my piece of work I've worked from this photo below as well as the others. It was painted by Franz Kline using acrylic paint. I decided to only use a small section of his work in mine as I feel that the way he works with paint is very powerful therefore using his ideas can clash with other artists, so I only worked in the style of him in the section on the right of the face. By doing this it has helped me understand how the artists work and use materials such as; oil pastels, paint and pencil. From this piece of work and can learn from it and see how I can improve it when looking back on it and my research.
