My work experience was based in Mattersey in a sculpting industry. My instructor began by telling us about his creations and the assignments he has done in the past. This for example is one of them, he created wooden sculptures of designs he had made for a wildlife trust, this then went to his idea for creating a metal gate for the company.
In this photo is one of the large machines they used there to bend and form metal into a shape they require. Using the green stand at the front let you control how much of the metal you wanted to bend. He was doing this with the metal pole for a gate design in Doncaster certain companies ask them to create designs for their buildings or parks this then keeps the men there at work and progresses their ideas within the metal industry and the skills they need to create other designs too.
After looking around the place we then looked into creating a design like my instructor did in the first photo. i began to look into the books he had provided that included doodles, animals, flowers and text. I got the idea to use a complicated design so that it had a lot of detail on it. However with the design I felt was not very accurate and neat so I began to start another design.
Now, this sketch I created from my imagination, as I felt copying from the book was not unique or different to others. So a drew a large flower in the centre of the paper and made sure all the points of the lines were linked somehow, I did this because when it is being cut all the white areas will be removed ready for printing. That is why the lines are very bold and black so they stand out when it is being cut. This design I am much more happier with as it is a more fun idea and isn't too simple and boring.
Finally he showed us how to create plaster. I got an empty bowl and a jug of water then added a cup of water into the bowl and sprinkled plaster dust in the water until the water was covered. Then swiped my hand inside the mixture to create plaster. This then was transferred into a jug and was poured into the clay designs. It was then left to set and go hard.
After the substance went hard I then peeled the plastic ring from the model and took it off completely. Then turned it over and scraped all the clay out of the plaster to create the outcome below. Im very happy with it as I feel it is very abstracted and was fun to make. During my time at work experience I have enjoyed it as it was a very new experience for me and iv'e learned a lot. Ive learnt how to use a laser cutter, how to bend and form metal, how to make plaster and how to use a rolling machine, its taught me a lot of things but one thing I do know is that it isn't for me as a future job.

After using the laser cutter to cut the card out I began to roll blue paint on it, however the safety hazards when using the laser cutter were very important as glasses and hair tied back were initial. Also being accompanied by the instructor when using and around the machine was important as we all didn't have experience with the laser machine and could do serious damage. Although after the cutter had finished a strong burning smell was produced and everything was a very hot surface including my design so I wait two to three minute for it too cool down and simply press out the white areas that had been cut out as some were still slightly attached to the other parts. Then I got some blue printing paint out and began to roll it onto a flat surface, then roll the ink lightly onto my design and placed is faced down on a new sheet of paper. Using the giant rolling machine I turned the wheel which made the heavy metal roller roll over my work and print it onto the paper, in the photo below is my cut out and my final print.
After experimenting with the wood work we then moved on to clay and plaster work. My instructor told me to create a 3D design on clay so that plaster was able to be poured on it. We had to make sure that when creating the model we had a cloth down underneath the clay so that it didn't stick to the mat, then when completed we could simply remove the cloth and move onto the next stage.
