This is the bottom half of my final completed costume for the Sewhat show. The skirt consists of chicken wire, newspaper, sand, paint, glue and elastic. After forming the basic structure for it I mixed paint sand and glue together but using three different colours, yellow, orange and brown. This then created a building look to it as the texture of the skirt looks like Spanish and foreign houses. It also looks like plaster. I painted the skirt in the style of Franz Kline as he uses patches of colour and thats what i have tried to do on my costume, he also uses the paint for it to run down the structure to create a very abstract and arty look to it.
However this is the final outcome of my costume, the mask links to Oskar Schlemmer's work on masks as he does similar creations to this, so i've created the mask in the style of his sculpture work. Ive also used in the whole of my costume the colours he uses such as browns, yellows, oranges and whites. I decided to wear a long armed black turtle neck jumper as this adds more focus to the mask and my skirt, it also covers all my skin which is the look I was definitely going for as I feel no skin should be shown seen as I should be representing a building or a modern structure. I also backcombed my hair and used a lot of hair spray to create a wild and crazy look, I wore tights instead of jeans to add more of a simple look to my feet and legs and wore simple flat shoes so I was safe when walking on stage. I am very happy with the final look of my costume as it was very enjoyable to wear but still linked well with the artists and the assigned task.
