Research into Jean Michel Basquiat

I began researching into Jean's art work and the skills and techniques he used. I then looked
into who he was as a person and how he expresses this in his work. I find his work very intriguing and strange, this is because the faces he draws and the colours he uses are bold and abstract, thats why his work excites me

Facts about him:

Born: December 22nd 1960 in New York city
Died: August 12th 1988 in Manhattan

His most famous paintings are Hollywood Africans (1983), In Italian (1983) and Irony of negro policeman (1981). As I researched more and more about him I realised and began to understand how he worked. He was a very abstract drawer and painter. He enjoyed using colour in his pieces of artwork and many types of faces. Although researching about him told me that he had a very troubled life growing up and creating art was his only he could express his feelings to others.
As you can see in this painting, he includes the words 'chills, pills and thrills" this implies that this excited him whilst creating it and explains what he is like as a person. In my opinion I like this piece, as I find it attractive and vibrant. I also feel like it delivers a very expressive message across and that is to relax and "chill".
