Research of the Bauhaus idea for survival guide

Staatliches Bauhaus, commonly known simply as Bauhaus was an art school in Germany that combined crafts and the fine arts, and was famous for their designs that it publicised and taught students into creating such abstract and vibrant designs. It operated from 1919 from 1933. At that time the German term meant " constructed house" in other words "school of building".  The Bauhaus was first founded by Walter Gropius in Weimar. In spite of it name, and the fact that its founder was an architect, the Bauhaus during the first years of its existence did not have an architecture department. Also it was founded with the idea of creating such amazing pieces of art work, including architecture. The Bauhaus style later became one of the most well known companies in modern design, Modernist architecture and art, design and architectural education. The Bauhaus had a large desire to encourage developments in art, graphic design, interior design, industrial design and typography. However in the art industry Bauhaus is till very popular and is still used in designing and product making.

Researching about Bauhaus was very useful, as I looked into how they use it in advertisement and product making. This helped me understand why it is so famous and popular, so I studied some of the work and discovered how they place objects and text in order to develop some of my own ideas for my survival guide. This photo attracted me the most as I like the way the text is arched around the upside down B, however the colour of the background also draws me in as I find it very unusual and different. So for that reason I will use a slightly lighter toned background for my idea of this certain survival guide. As well as the colour of the background attracts me so does the blacks and reds, this is because they are so bold and detailed.

Although I looked into advert designs and posters I took my researched a lot further and looked into products made in the style of Bauhaus. Most designs were furniture for example chairs, tables and foot stools. They were made using leather, metal and various types of wood. The leather was mainly black however certain parts of the chairs were plastic and was different colours, e.g yellows, oranges and reds. I can see why people used the style of Bauhaus when creating furniture as it gives them that abstract and funky look to them which makes them very interesting in my opinion.
